The Staff Senate is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and supportive community, and we believe that your voice and participation are crucial to achieving that goal. This page will introduce you to the various Staff Councils that exist at the university. You'll also learn about exciting affiliate opportunities with the Staff Senate, providing additional ways to collaborate, lead, and advocate for staff needs across the institution.We encourage you to explore the information provided and find the engagement opportunities that best align with your passions and professional goals. Affiliate Opportunities

Affiliate members include a staff person recruited on an as-needed basis for Staff Senate endeavors requiring expertise outside of the current Senate membership. Affiliate members do not have voting privileges and are ineligible to hold elected or committee chair positions. Affiliate members are chosen as needed by the appropriate committee chair and approved by the Executive Committee. Length of affiliation is determined by the Executive Committee.

Staff Councils

College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS)The mission of the Staff Council is to enhance the work environment for staff, promote team work that benefits the CEHS community, and to advocate for staff within that community.
Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR)

The mission of our staff council will be to enhance the work environment for current and future staff members. The council will do this by:

  • Providing opportunities to staff members which allow them to grow professionally
  • Bringing ideas and concerns that affect the culture and climate of IANR to the attention of IANR leadership
  • Facilitating communication and meaningful connections among IANR staff

 

College of Arts and Sciences

We are a cross section of the staff, representing Business Support, Lab Support, Office Support, Technical Support, and Advising/Outreach.

  • We solicit and discuss concerns and ideas from staff and raise them to the dean as needed
  • We promote and create opportunities for professional development, networking, and recognition
  • We act as a sounding board for the dean when deciding college policies and procedures

 

College of Engineering

Focus on positively impacting the college and providing opportunities for greater access and inclusion for staff through the following efforts: 

  • Offering professional development and networking opportunities for staff.
  • Providing feedback on policies, procedures, events, and other issues impacting staff.
  • Sharing common needs and problems of staff across departments so that staff can creatively resolve concerns.
  • Giving a voice to staff issues and facilitate communication of these issues to the Dean’s Office.
  • Communicating back to home departments or offices important news or staff council developments that impact staff at large.
  • Creating community within the college.
Student Affairs

The mission of the Student Life Staff Council (SLSC) is to enhance communication with the Vice Chancellor for Student Life, and to give the Student Life staff a voice to help enhance leadership support, promote a sense of community, and recognize successes in the Division, both individually and collectively.

The purpose of the Staff Council is to:

  • Facilitate communication with the staff and with the Division about important issues facing Student Life;
  • Promote/maintain strong staff connections and effectively integrate new staff;
  • Be a voice for staff to the Vice Chancellor for Student Life and the Division;
  • Support a positive climate of recognition, community and professional development.

 

College of Journalism and Mass Communications 

The mission of the staff council is to positively impact the college, enhance the work environment for current and future staff members and provide opportunities for greater access and inclusion for staff by:   

  • Giving a voice to staff issues and facilitating communication of these issues to college administration   
  • Promoting and creating opportunities for professional development, networking and recognition   
  • Providing feedback on policies, procedures, events and other issues impacting staff  
  • Sharing common needs and programs across the staff so that we can creatively resolve concerns together   
  • Creating community within the college   

 

Libraries Personnel Association (LPA)

 

We serve as both a staff council and a shared governance body in the UNL Libraries. LPA Board members are elected by their peers to advise libraries administration on issues of concern, advocate for staff welfare and development, promote staff professionalism and participation, and organize events and initiatives for staff to learn, connect, and exchange ideas.
